EXO-L Ankle Brace - info for insurance companies

The EXO-L Ankle Brace can improve the lives of thousands of people prone to ankle twists. Professional and recreational athletes, hikers and runners, people who work on uneven surfaces. The use of this innovative and very effective aid should be covered by all health insurers.

The ankle brace that we have invented - and that is worn by Olympic and World Champions - is totally different from other braces. Standard braces are based on the ‘limitation of movement’ principle. Our innovative custom-made (3D scan to 3D print) EXO-L Ankle Brace is based on the ‘car safety belt’ principle: it does not hinder regular ankle-foot movement, but only springs into action when there is an immediate threat of an ankle twist. Thanks to this unique new concept EXO-L provides more than 95% protection against ankle twists.

    Coverage EXO-L Ankle Brace

Many clients ask us if EXO-L is covered by health insurance. The current situation is that it varies. When EXO-L is work-related, it is fully covered. When it is sports or leisure related, it is not or only partly covered.

Isn’t there an inexplicable paradox in this? Ankle twist related GP consultations, physio consultations, and surgery are covered, but the prevention is not. Research has been done on healthcare costs being made for ankle surgery and threatment. These costs would be much lower if insurance companies covered EXO-L Ankle Braces. In addition, the impact that an ankle twist has on other aspects of a person’s life - like pain and sick leave - seems irrelevant to health insurers, as it is not their responsibility.

We hope and expect that in the future insurance companies will step up and adopt a more holistic approach towards ankle twists, their prevention, impact and cost, and will start covering the EXO-L Ankle Brace.
